Deja Vu DVD Review

Deja Vu Movie☺☺☺☺ A Smart Thriller
There are some movies that make you ask questions. What would life be like if you could change certain things? Can the government watch us like hawks? Déjà Vu artfully addresses these questions without attempting to give you any answers, all while keeping you entertained.

Federal agent Doug Carlin (played by Denzel Washington) is assigned to a case to uncover evidence for a New Orleans ferry explosion. In the process, he discovers a government lab with time-shifting surveillance technology and Claire Kuchever (played by Paula Patton) who is connected to the tragic explosion. The resolution of the case involves Carlin going back into time to save the woman and stop the explosion.

Typically, a story with this type of theme cannot help but look unrealistic but Déjà Vu manages to make sense. Although it has a moment or two that makes you want to scratch your head, towards the end, you’ll be wondering what the government is really up to these days.

Smokin Aces DVD Review By ETWire Editor

Smokin Aces

☺☺ ½ Caution: May Cause Confusion
In this shoot em’ up flick, a gang of eclectic assassins race to murder a Las Vegas magician-turned-wannabe gangster, Buddy ‘Aces” Israel (played by Jeremy Piven). Sounds predictable? Not quite. Think Pulp Fiction meets The Usual Suspects. With a combination like that, the film should have cult classic status but somehow it misses the target.

The movie basically follows these unusual killers, ranging from Jack Dupree (played by Ben Affleck) and Georgia Sykes (played by Alicia Keyes), on their chase for a million dollars and Aces’ heart (literally). FBI agents Donald Carruthers (played by Ray Liotta) and Richard Messner (played by Ryan Reynolds) have been given the challenge of getting to the wannabe before the diverse characters.

Despite its melting pot of personalities and spontaneous bursts of humor, Smoking Aces causes unnecessary confusion. The scenes are all over the place and the plot tends to follow. The inane attempts at humor often come across as lame due to bad timing. The best part of the movie is the surprise ending but even that has an element of confusion. If you were thinking about seeing ‘Aces’ in the theaters, you may enjoy it better on DVD or cable.
