 It's Tricky!
By ETEditor
Mega producer Christopher “Tricky” Stewart knows a thing or two about hits; He’s spent the past fifteen years creating them. Everyone from Mariah Carey to Whitney Houston to Rhianna have charted due to his wealth of experience. Tricky recently talked to Entertainment Wire about his new record label, the artists he’s worked with and the one artist he’d like to work with. His answer may surprise you.
Tricky's Talks about RedZone Records, Whitney Houston and Rhianna.
Blame It On Jamie
By ETEditor
☺☺☺ Focused on music
When Jamie Foxx released his album, Unpredictable, a few years ago, I attended one of his shows. I found it interesting because he’s one of the few people in the entertainment industry that can give you two shows in one. Half of his show was comedy, while the other half was music. I thought that was a brilliant idea, if an entertainer could pull it off (which Foxx obviously could).
For his 2009 Blame It Tour, Jamie took a different approach. The arena event was solely music. Don’t get me wrong. He threw in a joke or two, most of which were for or about women. While vocally seducing the crowd, he joked about his “black, weed smoking lips.” At one point during the show, Jamie came out donned in a blue-green jacket and shades circa his Oscar winning role Ray. He rocked back and forth saying that he would love to feel on some wrists. Note: If you’re confused, watch the movie for further explanation. The longest stretch of comic relief came when he invited women to come up and dance on stage for prizes and money.
Watching Foxx perform this go round gave me the impression that he really wanted to be taken seriously as a singer. Not just any singer but as a musical lover man, instead of a quick-hit seeking auto-tune fad. He continuously apologized for his auto-tune use throughout the show, even though it gave him the number Billboard single, Blame It. Ironically, the audience rushed to the stage when he started singing the infamous song.
Overall, Jamie Foxx put on a decent show. He immediately got the energy of the crowd going with bass heavy I Don’t Need It. He peppered the show with a mix of old school songs (like Slick Rick’s Children’s Story) complete with old school dances and an enthusiastic birthday tribute to Michael Jackson. He has time to become the artist that he wants to be and I think his audience will allow him to do that. And don’t worry, Jamie. I’m sure we can forgive you for one popular auto-tune song.
