THEIR CHILDREN

As I surfed the Internet today, I came across several pictures of celebrities and their children. Some of them are babies, while others are older. Actress Phylicia Rashad has a 20 year old daughter doing off broadway. Singer Eric Benet’s daughter sings and writes her own music. It’s nice to see so many of their offspring finding ways to express their own creativity. It can be very challenging to figure out what to do with your life. So, if they’ve already found their passion through their parent’s vocation, more power to them.
If your parent is an entertainer, is it easier to figure out which career to choose?
RIGGED

Today, Susan Boyle lost the top spot on the Britain’s Got Talent show to a dance troupe. This comes after seven weeks of hype from around the world about this great undiscovered talent. She’s even become tabloid bait with stories of misbehavior. This is the third reality show (i.e American Idol and Dancing With The Stars) to award the underdog the top spot, instead of giving it to the person that gets the most media attention. There’s obviously a formula to these shows and the way they choose a winner. The good news for the runner-up is that if they play their cards right they’ll be better off than the winner.
Why do reality shows avoid making the obvious choice for winners? Is it because the producers feel that the Susan Boyles and Adam Lamberts of the world will be successful anyway?
BEHIND THE MUSIC

VH1 has announced its list for the next slew of Behind the Music specials. Among the list is performers Pink, T.I., Lil Wayne and 50 Cent. Given the direction of music over the past eight years, I can see why they chose those artists. But singer Bobby Brown is an unusual pick. He has had some impact on popular music. I just think that there can’t be that much we don’t already know about him. Besides, he already did Behind the Music with New Edition.
Is it me or is Bobby Brown an unnecessary choice for VH1’s Behind the Music?
IRRESPONSIBLE

I know it’s been said several times but I can’t help believing that it bears repeating. Some members of the media can be so irresponsible. Why start a rumor about someone being dead when you know they’re fighting for their life? This week, rumors surfaced that actor Patrick Swayze, who is fighting pancreatic cancer, is dead. He’s not. But as someone who’s lost family members to this illness, I can say that a person’s attitude is important. Even if there is some likelihood that they will succumb to the illness, the person and their family should be allowed to cope with the challenges and maintain a positive attitude about it without interference. Sometimes that’s the only thing that keeps them going.
Will people ever understand how important words are to a person’s health?
NOT SO OBSSESSED

Happy Mother’s Day! Now that I got that out of the way.
I found a quote on the Internet for actor Idris Elba talking about his experience working with singer Beyonce in the movie Obsessed. Here’s his quote:
“When we first started taping, it was difficult for us to really connect as artists because she has such a huge machine behind her. So, in the early going it felt divided…almost like it was her and her team on one side and everyone else on the other.”
There are a few different interpretations of what he meant but I think I understand what he’s saying. Basically, Elba is saying that when making a movie, it’s important for the two main actors to get to know each other so they can make their characters seem more real. This is difficult to do when one actor has the superstar thing going on. Makes sense from my end because great chemistry makes for a great movie.
I also think it’s important to note that Beyonce has been in the entertainment industry since she was at least 14 years old. She has always been surrounded by people, particularly family. I don’t think that’s going to change right away and she probably prefers it that way. Given the backlash celebrity has been known to bestow on entertainers, her family is probably there trying to make sure nothing bad happens to her.
As time goes on, will Beyonce be able to continue to insulate herself or will this eventually start to take a toll on her professionally?
STALKING TY

This year, it seems like celebrities (Shawn Johnson and Tyler Perry to name a few) have been having a hard time with stalkers. The latest victim is singer/actor Tyrese. His stalker has harassed him over the phone and the Internet. Apparently, she’s called his office several times. When she couldn’t reach him there, she started to bother him on Twitter. I think now that he’s taken legal action. This woman will probably disappear. I don’t think she expected to get media attention for her actions.
We’ve heard a lot about stalkers over the years but I’m still trying to figure out what does it take to become a stalker? Are these people crazy or just lonely?
BI BI
Well, what do you know. Just as Entertainment Wire was publishing a review for Girly G’s book TriSEXual, someone speaks out about their own sexuality. Singer Pink did an interview stating that she is bisexual. Apparently, there have been rumors about her for a long time and some of these rumors link her sexuality to her divorce from Carey Hart. The two have been “dating” again recently. Now, I may be the only one but I always felt like they were a good match. They seemed like such a down-to-earth, supportive couple.
Anywho, does this mean that Pink and Carey won’t continue to move forward with their reconciliation? I hope not.
I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW!
Entertainment Wire (www.etwireonline.com) posted that singer Kelis filed for divorce from rapper Nas April 30th. The two have been married for six years and are expecting their first child. Upon news of their separation, Internet buffs claim divorce may have been imminent because of the rapper’s infidelity. But let’s face it; infidelity is nothing new, especially in the entertainment industry. The truth is there’s a lot of temptation for performers. It looks like the couples that make it or the ones that isolate themselves and their personal lives far a way from the glare of the stage and the press. Many performers’ spouses simply disregard the rumors and go about the business of keeping the home together.
Given that reality, is it really that believable that Kelis would leave Nas because of cheating, especially since they’re expecting a child? Or may be it’s more likely that they had other “irreconcilable differences” that the public are not privy to?
