OPRAH: THE END OF AN ERA

After watching Oprah Winfrey tell her audience that she will end her talk show in September 2011, I was struck with two things. For one, I was saddened. I’m one of the people that grew up on Oprah. It’s hard to imagine life without her. Yet, I can’t say that I was surprised by the news. I didn’t expect it to come so soon; I thought she might wait until next year to say something.
But what else could Oprah do after 25 years on the air? I think that was the question that gave her the decision. You can only reinvent a show so much. However, I’m certain we’ll continue to see her around. Her new 2011 cable network will be another outlet for her generous and positive spirit. It will be the next level for her and she will continue to break ground.
What do you think will happen to Oprah Winfrey after she leaves her show?
KATT WILLIAMS: BUSTED

In a strange turn of events, police arrested comedian Katt Williams today for burglary and criminal trespassing charges. The story is still developing. Williams is the comedian who has made a living out of “pimpin, pimpin.” Truth be told, he is really pimpin. I heard a while back that he made over $50 million last year. I guess this means he can afford the bail.
I’m willing to bet this situation is a misunderstanding. Do think Katt Williams really burglarized someone’s home?
TONI BRAXTON: SEPARATED

News spread this weekend that singer Toni Braxton and her husband, former Mint Condition member, Keri Lewis are separated. They’ve been married for 8 years and, for the most part, I haven’t heard a peep out of them, except for Toni discussing her son’s autism or the little special she shot when she erroneously left Arista for Blackground Records. Her separation is so unexpected that some have questioned rather it’s a publicity stunt for her new album.
I don’t see her going that far. Maybe she and Keri had some real issues to work out. I’ve learned that you can never tell what’s going on in someone’s relationship. When you think it’s bad, the people involved insist that they’re happy; when you think it’s good, you find out it’s been bad all along.
Of course, this is only a separation. They could end up working it out. Do you think Toni Braxton’s separation from her husband is a publicity stunt?
RHIANNA: COMING CLEAN

I watched pop star Rhianna’s interview today. This was the first time that she has publicly spoken about the attack she suffered from then-boyfriend singer Chris Brown. In the interview, she addressed what happened, what she did afterward and what she was thinking. It was somewhat eye opening to hear her side of the story – just to know what a woman in that position thinks about her own situation.
She handled the interview with grace and dignity. I was happy to see that she understood the affect staying with Chris would have on her career. In my opinion, she may have never recovered from that, professionally.
What did you think of Rhianna’s interview?
