JANET’S SHORT HAIR

Like many of you, I saw singer Janet Jackson’s hair on American Idol this week. I saw earlier than the show but that was the first time I saw it all the way around. And to be honest, I don’t think it looks bad. It doesn’t look bad at all. It’s a little startling only because I’m so used to seeing her with a lot of hair but I think it’s a nice change. Besides, if she doesn’t like it, she could always grow it back.
Do you like Janet Jackson’s new do?
VH1: WE LIKE THESE SHOWS

VH1 has decided to buy a second season of Basketball Wives, What Chilli Wants and Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business. I’m glad to see their return. The only show I haven’t quite been able to get into is Basketball Wives. I’m not saying that it’s a bad show but, despite the little drink throwing incidents, it’s not the most interesting show on in the group.

ALICIA IS PREGNANT

After weeks of rumors, singer Alicia Keys and producer Swiss Beatz issued a statement to People magazine confirming that she is pregnant. They also say they plan to marry at the end of the year. As many of you know, Beatz is in the midst of an ugly divorcefrom singer Mashonda, mother of one of his two sons. Mashonda has been quite vocal about her feelings on the Keyes and Beatz union. As a result, the Internet has taken sides. A lot of people feel that Keys is a home wrecker.
My thoughts? As I mentioned in my post about the Housewives divorce, men don’t usually seek a divorce. So, if you find one, he must really be unhappy and quite possibly has found someone else. This situation is a terrific example. I do empathize with Mashonda. With that said, I am also happy for Alicia; I’m sure she’s looking forward to her first child.
Do you blame Alicia Keys for Swiss Beatz divorce?
GARY COLEMAN DEAD

Age forty-two is too young to die but child actor Gary Coleman died yesterday after a fall. He suffered a epidural hematoma and was rushed to the hospital. He spent a day on life support and by Friday he had passed. My condolences go out to his family and friends.
Is it me or does it seem like the cast of Diff’rent Strokes have had a hard time?
DANCING WITH THE STARS

It’s down to the last three and Ocho Cinco didn’t pull it together like I told him to. LOL Anyway, the finalists are Sportscaster Erin Andrews, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Olympian Evan Lysacek. The winner will be chosen this week. I think the winner chosen will be Evan, given he doesn’t blow it. Nicole will be runner-up. The reason Nicole won’t win is because she’s too good. I don’t think the objective of the show is to choose the best dancer; it’s to chose the best celebrity dancer - the person that doesn’t have a natural and/or trained aptitude for dance. Nicole, obviously, does.
Who do you think will win?
CELEBRITY APPRENTICE

I stopped watching The Apprentice after about the second or third season. Even when they started The Celebrity Apprentice, I still didn’t really watch it. This season, I did catch it (Well, most of it). I found that it wasn’t so bad. It’s actually interesting to see celebrities take on projects and try to win money for their charities. With that said, Brett Michaels had to win. “The Donald” would have lost (TV) credibility, if he hadn’t chosen him. Either way, congrats Bret! And get better.

"HOUSEWIFE" DIVORCE

Former Housewife of Atlanta, DeShawn Graves Snow, is headed for divorce. Her husband, former NBA player Eric Snow, filed for divorce this week citing that their 12 year marriage has no hope of reconciliation. The couple appeared on the first season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Supposedly, she decided to leave the show because she didn’t like all the drama. I guess she has drama now.
First, let me say that I do empathize with them and wish them the best in this difficult time. Statistically, it’s estimated that around 75% of divorces are initiated by women, not men. I don’t mean to speculate but I can’t help raising an eyebrow at Eric being the one to file divorce.
Could there be another woman involved?
DIDDY: GIVE ME THE JOB

Next week, American Idol judge Simon Cowell will end his 9 year run on the star making phenomenon. Since learning how much the judge makes a week, Rap mogul Diddy is ultra interested in taking Cowell’s spot but only if he can make the exact same amount of money. He is advocating for his fans to get on Twitter, Facebook and Myspace to campaign that he get the job.
You know, I like the Internet and what it can do for people. So, on that level, I like the initiative that Diddy is taking to make things happen. However, I have to say that I cannot join in on this campaign. Not because I don’t like Diddy and not because I think he would be a bad judge. Actually, I think he would probably improve the ratings. I can’t join in because it sounds like Diddy just wants the job for the money. I think that’s the wrong reason to do anything. As Cowell said in his Oprah interview this week, Idol is about the contestants, not the judges. If a judge is walking in there with his mind on himself, I’m afraid he will do the contestants a disservice.
Are you going to campaign for Diddy to take Simon Cowell’s spot?
CHILLI INTERVIEW

Recently, Entertainment Wire talked with Chilli about her show on VH1 What Chilli Wants, Tionna and her feelings about Usher. It was my first time interviewing her and I found her to be really frank. To hear what I mean, visit www.etwireonline.com/features

A LEGEND DIES

It always amazes me how some people get more press when they die than others (even though others have done more in the entertainment industry). Case in point, legendary Lena Horne died at 92 this past week. I barely saw any entertainment shows cover it but when Anna Nicole Smith died, that was all over the place for months. There should be specials to remind us of where we’ve been artistically. We are always are history. And by we, I mean, everyone.
Should Lena Horne’s passing have gotten more exposure in the media?
MARY AS NINA

I love to see singers branch out and do more. Singer Mary J. Blige is slated to play Nina Simone in the biopic about the late singer’s life. Apparently, (like many films) the movie has been a long time in the making but it looks like it’s finally going to be a go. Nina had a tremendous body of work that continues to influence today’s music. So, it’s great to see others pay homage to her life and her work. In some ways, her story kind of reminds me of singer Phyllis Hyman. If Mary takes on the role and commits to it, I think it could take her into a whole other direction in her career. I’m talking award winning performance.
Do you think Mary J. Blige can make a strong showing in the film about Nina Simone’s life?
SIGN O THE TIMES

Rapper Nicki Minaj, who has admitted to being bisexual, seems to be catching fire right now. She’s recorded a song with Usher (Lil Freak) where she raps about putting her hands in another woman’s pants. She’s also recorded a song with Christina Aguilera (Woohoo), a song about doing things to the “box.” Isn’t it funny how times change? This seems to be a trend-in music and in life. Young girls brag about being able to get any guy or girl they want like it aint nothing.
Do you think Nicki Minaj is a positive influence for gays and bisexuals?
MEN IN BLACK III

After eight years, it looks like we’re gonna have another Men In Black. The third sequel to the box office hit starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones is set to be released in 2012. Will is going to return to the movie, as well as Tommy. I enjoyed the original movie and thought it was very different from the other alien movies I’ve seen. However, I do wonder why it took so long for them to green light this project. They will have to go above and beyond to make sure the wait was worth it.
Is eight years to long for a sequel?
DAMON TRIES TO RISE AGAIN

It’s been about 6 years since business man Damon Dash and rap mogul Jay-Z parted ways, professionally and personally. From the sound of it, the split always seemed really hurtful for Dash. Allegedly, he’s planning to change the hurt into success by re-launching Roc-A-Fella Records without his former friend.
If he is able to accomplish this, kudos to him but I think he has an uphill climb. I think it will be difficult to bring the label back because the scope of music has changed so much. From what I’ve read, he hasn’t even really been working in the music industry over the past several years. So, he would have to get acquainted with the musical climate of today.
Is it a good idea to do something you’ve already done before or should you just start another venture?
GABRIELLE SUED BY BOYFRIEND’S WIFE

About a month ago, I remember hearing a story about a woman who sued her husband’s mistress for millions of dollars and won. I guess NBA star Dwayne Wade’s wife, Siohvaughn, heard the same story and thought it might work for her. She is suing actress Gabrielle Union claiming that she has traumatized her and Wade’s children with her overtly sexual behavior. She’s also seeking damages from Union for breaking up her marriage. Of course, Union and Wade deny these charges.
When I heard the story of the woman who sued her ex-husband’s mistress, I figured it would give more people ideas. Look-I get that divorce is hard. I get that divorce is excruciatingly painful. However, we still have to think here. It’ s not going to be easy for scorned wives to just run to the court house, file a lawsuit against the husband and the new woman and win, feeling completely vindicated. Just like some brilliant lawyer figured out a way for women to sue the woman their husband chose, another lawyer will figure out a way to keep the new women from losing in these cases. I think it’s a lose-lose situation.
Should Gabrielle Union even have to go to court for this?
BLAQUE MEMBER ARRESTED

I’ve heard this story time and time again (different singers) and I always wish it was different. Natina Reed from girl group Blaque was allegedly arrested for prostitution and cocaine possession a few weeks. She was supposed to be working on a reality show with her bandmates a couple of years ago but the project never got off the ground. At one time, she was engaged to rapper Kurupt (he’s since married someone else) and they share a child.
I think this situation is most sad because she has a small child. It makes me wonder what is so bad that she would feel the need to do this.
Are some people just not strong enough to enter the entertainment industry?
ENOUGH ALREADY

I guess I should have expected it but I just knew we would be over this. Last week, I was watching Extra and this guy comes on claiming that he was the late Michael Jackson’s boyfriend. He says Michael initiated the relationship and that they loved each other. For those that have been living under a rock for 25 years, rumors have surrounded Michael’s sexuality for years, even after he married Lisa Marie Pressley.
Here’s my thing: what’s the point? Really? What’s the point of bringing up Michael Jackson’s sexuality? It really doesn’t matter because it doesn’t change the impact he had on the global community. I mean, if it were true (and I do mean, if) would he really be the first entertainer to be on the down low. I know one deceased singer that I just knew would have been outed by now. I’ll give you a hint; he was an R&B singer.
Should entertainers be outed once they are deceased?
WHITNEY HOUSTON: NOT SO GOOD PERFORMANCES

Many have heard that singer Whitney Houston is on tour overseas. Unfortunately, reports are increasing that she’s not doing a good job. She can’t sing her most popular songs like The Greatest Love of All or I Will Always Love You. Her voice cracks and she sounds breathless. Although the singer asked for understanding, some people wanted a refund. I really feel for Whitney. She set a musical and vocal standard 20 years ago and, right now, she’s not able to keep it up.
After this tour, should Whitney Houston stop touring?
SPLITSVILLE

Actor Halle Berry and her model boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry have split after 5 years together. Aubry confirmed the split on Access Hollywood and says that they will continue to have love and respect for each other. The two who have a daughter, Nahla, together have apparently been growing apart for a few months now. Well, I look at it this way. At least, they had 5 years together. I think Halle has the right idea with avoiding marriage. It seems to be working for her.
Is Halle Berry unlucky in love or she just like any other woman searching?
