THE GOLDIGGER'S CLUB
Basketball Wives. Love and Hip Hop. The Real Housewives franchise. Come on. You know I had to write The Goldigger’s Club.
Now before you overreact, The Goldigger’s Club is not an attack on these types of shows or the women in the shows. Actually, my book was written before several of the shows even aired their first episode. I really wrote this book because it is so fascinating to see how women married/attached to money work. From the type of ratings these reality shows get, I think the public agrees.
My book, The Goldigger’s Club, is a story about three women and their relentless pursuit of money and status. Along the way they make a lot of questionable decisions but, in the end, they have to decide what they’re willing to do and what they’re not willing to do for the money. The scheduled release date is January 3, 2012 and I will be keeping you posted between now and then.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
ELIZABETH TAYLOR

It’s been so long since Elizabeth Taylor starred in any movies, making it difficult to see how relevant she was to the movie industry. I personally never quite got why she was such a big deal, especially when you consider that her 8 marriages often overshadowed her work. But here are a couple of things that might explain her impact:
1. She raised over $100 million dollars for HIV/AIDS research.
2. Her perfume line earned over $200 million in sales, pioneering the celebrity vanity fragrance.
3. She began acting at age 10.
4. Taylor is one of the few actors who have won 2 Oscars.
CHRIS BROWN SOLUTION

I’ve figured out exactly what Chris Brown should do to end all of his troubles; Change his last name.
Hear me out. When I thought about Browns in the entertainment industry, I came up with a few names. Bobby Brown. James Brown. Foxy Brown. Then, it dawned on me. If you’re a performer, Brown is not exactly a good luck charm. So, I propose that Chris Brown consider changing his last name. Then, maybe he can make a new start for himself. Let’s face it after his meltdown at the GMA he could definitely use a new start.
P.S. – I am fully aware that there are some nut baskets out there that will take this as more than a joke. That's okay.
WYCLEF JEAN SHOT

Don't worry. He's not dead. According to Popeater.com, the rapper was shot in the hand after a series of bullets hit his car. He was in Port-au-Prince with fellow rapper Busta Rhymes. According to Wyclef Jean's publicist, he is "doing well" and has been released from the hospital.
Dare I be a conspiracy theorist and say that someone was obviously trying to tell him something. You have this shooting. You have the Board of Elections turning down his bid for presidency in Haiti and you have the controversy that followed his attempt to run for office. He may love Haiti but I don't think he's as loved in that country as he would like to think he is.
JERMAINE JACKSON’S MICHAEL BOOK

I tell ya. With a brother like Jermaine Jackson who needs enemies. This dude is planning to release a book about his brother, music icon Michael Jackson. He calls it a tribute but, in the book, he intends to talk about Michael’s drug and alcohol use. If you remember, this is similar to a book that Jermaine wanted to release several years ago. At the time, he went on Larry King’s show to talk about it. Then, he later denied the book existed.
This is so trifling. Isn’t the family in the middle of a trial against Dr. Conrad? Why is Jermaine intent on “trying” (and I do mean trying) to destroy his brother’s legacy? Doesn’t he know that no matter what he says about Michael he will never bring him down to his level? He will NEVER be Michael’s equal. I don’t care what type of book he puts out.
RIP NATE DOGG

Since Nate Dogg's passing, I’ve been thinking about what made him special. He wasn’t a great rapper. He didn’t seem to sing; It was more like singing/talking but maybe that is what made him special. Nate didn’t fit into a box. Yet, he managed to etch himself in our minds. If you sung along to Regulator, chances are you couldn’t wait til his part came up.
It’s unfortunate that he ran into so much adversity personally but it’s a reminder that we must take better care of ourselves. Go to the doctor. Exercise. Eat right. We don’t like to hear these things and we put off doing them. If we continue to avoid doing right by ourselves, our bodies will fail on us.
RIP Nate.
KEM INTERVIEW

I recently interviewed singer Kem on Entertainment Wire. He’s currently on his Intimacy Tour with Musiq. We talked about his fans reaction to his music and how music can help build intimacy in relationships. I found Kem to be very thoughtful.
NEYO'S TWITTER RANT

Neyo was a little POed this week. After he found out that Snooki (Jersey Shore) was on the cover of Rolling Stone, he took to Twitter to express his disapproval. In short, he said that he will get the respect he deserved in the music industry or he won't be in the industry. Snooki responded saying that he'd lost a loyal fan in her.
Okay. So, Neyo's frustrated with Rolling Stone for overlooking him. It happens to a lot of artists. You know what I've learned in the past couple of years? Don't expect people to promote you. Find innovative ways to promote yourself. I'm sure with your resources you can get around the slights, Neyo, but if you give up on your gift, that would be on you. Real Talk!
EVELYN BACKLASH

There's been a lot said about Evelyn Lozada (Basketball Wives) this week. Upon the season finale of the hit VH1 show, she revealed that she had a fling with Tami Roman's ex husband, while they were still married. Evelyn told Tami that she wasn't "a factor" and a fight ensued. Internet users have spoken and some have said that they hate Evelyn, lacing their comments with unpleasant nicknames for her.
I think "hate" is a strong word. The woman banged somebody's husband; she didn't kill anybody. Although I think it could have been handled differently, only time will rather the two women can genuinely foster a friendship.
DIVORCES AND SEPERATIONS

Well, it seems like we’re on a roll with the divorces this year and we’re just in the first quarter! According to E! Online, the House actress Olivia Wilde filed for divorce from her filmmaker husband. The two have been married for 8 years. This news is right on the heels of confirmation of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s split. So far, I’ve counted about 11 celebrity splits this year. I guess this is a big year for people to move on and get happy.
P.S. - If you can remember, at the beginning of the year I predicted we'd see more seperations and divorces. I'm just sayin.
CHARLIE SHEEN TELEVISION WATCH

Charlie Sheen has become a hot commodity—for himself, as well as television networks. This past week, VH1 aired a show about the actor and his recent troubles. Now TLC has announced plans to air a special documentary on him called Charlie Sheen: On The Brink.
I know Sheen feels like he’s winning but I can’t help but wonder if he’s really the one winning. So many people are able to make money off of him and his troubles right now. It’s amazing. I would just like to see him get his life back in order.
Who’s winning? Charlie Sheen or the “machine”?
MISSY AND TIMBALAND REUNITE

I didn't expect this to happen. I thought Timbaland was going to stick with Pop forever but it looks like he's had a change of heart. Timbaland and Missy will reunite for Missy's upcoming CD Block Party. They are also planning to shoot a video for their song "Take Ur Clothes Off."
It should be interesting to see the two of them back together again but I wonder if he'll do the same with singer Ginuwine. As you may (or may not) recall, Ginuwine made a big stink in the media about the way he felt Timbaland treated him. He said he felt like the mega producer didn't want to work with him. Who knows? We'll see.
WHITNEY HOUSTON’S DAUGHTER ON DRUGS

I guess no one should be completely surprised to hear about this but it’s still no less unfortunate. The National Enquirer published pictures of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, snorting cocaine and drinking alcohol. The pictures come from the girl’s ex boyfriend. In response, the teenager took to Twitter asking people to pray and claiming that she was set up.
If this story is true, I hope Bobbi Kristina is doing more than praying. I hope she is getting some help. Drug abuse is hard enough to deal with when you are an adult; it shouldn’t be something that a child has to go through.
What if this explains how she lost her "baby" weight?
OPRAH AND FAMILY

About a week ago, I was sitting at a table with people who started talking about Oprah. The people discussing her ended up saying that they felt like she wasn't all that nice and, in fact, was a "lonely" person. I was a little bit confused. I've been watching (not always consistently) her for 25 years and I've never had the impression that Oprah was mean or lonely.
Of late, many bring up her relationship with her relatives as a case against Oprah. I think this is really unfair. So, she doesn't give her mother her personal phone number. Well, maybe she doesn't have the greatest relationship with her mother. Just because someone brings you into the world doesn't mean they are going to do right by you. So, she fired her cousin from her company years ago, in which the cousin claims someone told her Oprah didn't like her "Jesus talk." Oprah didn't tell her that! Instead of taking the word of a possibly disgruntled employee, she should have talked to Oprah directly.
In 2007, Oprah's cousin, Kenneth Winfrey, wrote an article about his relation to her, answering questions that people usually have about him and his famous cousin. It is so strange to me that people always tell him that he should ask his cousin for money when he hits a tough spot. I commend him for saying that he doesn't feel "entitled" to her money.
