ROYAL WEDDING

Now that the royal wedding is over, I've started thinking. Why were we so obsessed with it? Why does it matter to Americans what the royals are doing across the pond? I understand that there is a such thing as tradition but what does that have to do with us?
Here's the answer I came up with: We don't have royalty here. I never thought that we actually wanted that but, from the looks of how we acted in preparation of William and Kate's nuptials, maybe we do. Which is weird to me because in away we already the equivalent to royalty: Celebrities. We already have people that we can oooh and ahh about. I guess we're never satisified.
BABY CANNONS ARE HERE

This seemed like the longest pregnancy ever for singer Mariah Carey (and for many others too) but the wait is over as she gave birth to a healthy girl and boy at 12:07 this afternoon. Her husband, Nick Cannon, confirmed the news on Twitter today. Today is also the couple's wedding anniversary. No baby names were listed.
Congratulations to the happy parents. I'm sure they will thoroughly enjoy parenthood and all that comes with it. Cheers!
ADELE'S ROLLING IN THE DEEP
I am really feeling this song. After her Grammy winning music (Chasing Pavements) a few years ago, I wasn't sure if Adele would be able to maintain her mojo but she is proving to be a force in the music industry. This great news to me. Sometimes you get tired of hearing the same thing over and over. It's almost like the truly creative people have fallen back and disappeared.
Good job, Adele.
WAITING TO EXHALE SEQUEL

In case you haven't heard/read, author Terry McMillan announced via Twitter that there will be a sequel to Waiting To Exhale, the box office movie based on the best selling book. According to McMillan, they are working on a script for it now and it may be in theaters around 2012.
As an author, I look forward to this. I would love to see how the movie plays out, especially since several years have passed.
Are you looking forward to the sequel?
CIBRIAN AND RIMES MARRIED

Actor Eddie Cibrian and singer LeAnn Rimes made their highly publicized (and scrutinized) union official yesterday. According to People.com, the pair exchanged vows surrounded by 40 friends and family members. The two began their relationship in 2008 while still married to other people. Interestingly, LeAnn's ex-husband, Dean Sheremet, is engaged to someone else.
I say interesting because it always amazes me how quickly some people move on. I mean, I really think they need to teach a class on this stuff. Think of all the people (probably more women) still harboring feelings for their exes years later. Yet, these people can move on with almost lightning speed. That's a gift!
RUSH, RUSH TO BEYONCE'S NEW SINGLE
I heard Beyonce's first single from her upcoming album in the car this morning. It's okay. Not the greatest in the world but not the worst either. I predict We Run The World (Girls) will get much radio airplay either way.
I like the drummer beat. Take a listen and tell me what you think.
CAGED

Nicolas Cage had a wild night. According to Popeater, the actor was arrested for public drunkenness and domestic violence. Sources say he was having a dispute with his wife about their rental properties. Dog The Bounty Hunter paid his $11,000 bail. Recently, Cage was also having problems with the IRS, owing them several thousands of dollars.
Man, money has messed up many relationships. It's too bad that having a lot of it doesn't make things any easier.
CATHERINE'S MENTAL ILLNESS

As if life hasn't been hard enough for Catherine Zeta-Jones, the actress was compelled to check herself into a mental hospital this week. People Magazine confirmed that Catherine is bipolar (also known as manic depression). Last year, her husband actor Michael Douglas was treated for Type 4 Throat Cancer.
This is pretty shocking. I never even saw it coming. I do hope she continues getting treatment. Bipolar Disorder is nothing to play with.
TEYANA TAYLOR AND ASSAULT

To be really honest with you, I'm not all that familiar with Teyana Taylor. So, I wikied her and read that she is a "socialite" who was on My Sweet 16. She also released a song called "Google Me" and worked with Beyonce. Anyway, this week TMZ reported that she was accused of attacking a woman that made a comment about her friend, singer Chris Brown. She maintains that she didn't assault anyone.
I hope the assault is just a misunderstanding. Can't see fighting over a man that isn't mine, even if he was a friend or like a brother to me. I'm sure Chris has no problems defending himself (literally). If I were her, I wouldn't be willing to go jail for this.
THICKE AND PATTON: SAY IT AINT SO

Aww. I really hate to hear this. According to Mediatakeout.com, singer Robin Thicke and actress Paula Patton are having marital problems. The web site claims that the two are growing apart due to their schedules and Thicke's "wandering eye." The couple have a baby boy named Julian.
I like them together. I sure hope they're not allowing their schedules and groupies to get in the way. They're a family now. I just feel that they did things in a good order. And if Robin lets Paula go, he may never be this lucky again.
PEPSII'S WAY

I recently interviewed singer Cheryl "Pepsii" Riley. I like interviewing people like her-very easy to talk to. Anyway, if you follow Tyler Perry's plays than you've seen a her quite a bit over the years. During the interview, she talked about her start and career today.
OPRAH'S SACRIFICE

Let me start by saying I have a ton of respect for anyone who is able to overcome the harsh obstacles that Oprah has. So, that's why I sometimes check in to see what she's up to. I recently caught Master Class on her OWN network. It was a 2 part episode about her.
Well towards the end of one of them, she talked about why she didn't have children and she said that having children was a sacrifice. In a nutshell, she wanted to be true to herself and her work so she decided to forgo motherhood. I think I understood what she meant but I remember thinking I wonder how many people are going to be offended by this. In my opinion, you have to sacrifice other things to have children because they require a lot of time and attention. I don't know if I would call children the sacrifice though. Either way, still hope Oprah's network succeeds.
Do you think children are sacrifice?
KELLY'S TELL ALL

I don't know that I quite believe this. I mean, I'm sure singer R. Kelly has written a book but I doubt that it's a tell all. Kelly would never do that. Yet according to Sister 2 Sister Magazine, Kelly's Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me will delve into his life to offer fans a glimpse of the good in the singer's life as well as his drama.
Though Kelly says he is tired of being misunderstood, I know that there are some things he would prefer not to clear up. Maybe his fans will get lucky and he'll touch on some of his sour relationships with other artists, such as Joe, Neyo and Jay-Z but more than likely, he'll probably a) only scratch the surface- covering bits of details and/or b) offer a controversial (possibly questionable) perspective on certain aspects of his past. Either way, I wouldn't expect much soul baring here.
Will you buy R. Kelly's book?
BEAUTIFUL NOEL GOURDIN
I’ve been hearing this song on the radio more and more over the past few weeks. Beautiful is basically a song about all the terms that men have come to use in referencing women. It’s a nice gesture. Let me know what you think.
RIHANNA ROLLING STONE INTERVIEW

By now, I expect any interview an artist gives to Rolling Stone Magazine to be completely off the rector scale. Singer Rihanna’s interview was no different. In the interview, she said that since she’s so used to being in charge that she likes having someone else in charge behind closed doors. The singer particularly enjoys being tied up and spanked.
I would give you a whole spill about how these comments aren’t necessary when you’re as successful as she is but I would just be wasting screen space. I take it there must be a method to her (her camp’s) madness. So, I’ll just say this definitely goes in the TMI category.
BEYONCE FIRES DAD

Let's face it. Everybody wants to get away from their parents after awhile. I know I did. For this reason alone, no one should be surprised that singer Beyonce has fired her father, Matthew Knowles, as a manager. He has been her manager since she was a member of Destiny's Child and, by all reports, has went above and beyond to look out for her best interest.
All singers do this after awhile. Janet Jackson. Brandy. Usher. I don't think it's a necessarily a bad idea. The only thing I would caution is that Beyonce take the time to find another good manager. She has to realize that no one is going to protect her best interest like her father. She may not even get the personalized attention that she's used to having. As long as she can handle that, she may fair okay. Janet did. Well...until you know what happened.
What do you think of Beyonce letting her father go?
